Your Guide to Cryotherapy

With the chilly weather outside, the thought of submerging yourself into a cold container isn’t your idea of therapy for your aches. But the revolutionary cryotherapy is more than just muscle relief, as it provides a way to reset your body. Did you just get chills?

Cryotherapy treatments are popping up all over the city, and many people have found various uses for it. The therapy has innovative properties to not just help with aches and pains, but for the general health of your body.

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is an innovative treatment for “cold therapy” by exposing your body to almost freezing degrees. It is a process where a person stands in a room at an extremely low temperature, so the individual’s body gets used to the cold climate. Then the temperature drops below -100 degrees. During the treatment, the person is monitored and left in the room for a few short minutes so the body’s tissues won’t freeze. It’s probably not the ice you want around your wrist.

How many sessions can you have of cryotherapy?

You can regularly use cryotherapy, but often you see results from one treatment. Athletes use it usually twice a day for their muscles and aches. There is a routine where you go for ten days to cryotherapy and return once a month afterward.

Are there any side effects from the treatments?

The common side effects immediately after your treatment are redness, tingling, and numbness. Some individuals will have irritation of the skin due to the exposure to the cold. The side effects eventually go away but consult with your physician if they do not go away in 24 hours.

Cryotherapy is not recommended for people with diabetes or other nerve conditions, as it might result in further nerve damage.

How Cryotherapy Helps Your Body

Cryotherapy treatments are used for muscle relief and as a beauty routine, making it a dynamic type of therapy. It has multiple kinds of benefits, causing it to become a popular trend.

Benefits of cryotherapy

Aside from relieving your achy muscles, there are multiple areas of benefits for the treatment.

  • Reduces inflammation and tones muscle
  • Tighter skin and reduces pore size
  • Lessen migraine symptoms
  • Helps with mood disorders due to the release of noradrenaline, endorphins, and adrenaline
  • Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease prevention as it combats the inflammatory and oxidative stress responses from the condition
